Township of James/Elk Lake
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005 has been implemented. The Township of James has developed a training policy for Municipal Staff and Volunteers along with a Customer Service Policy.
Council for the Township of James (Elk Lake) offers the following to the ratepayers:
1. Due to current fiscal restraints, Council cannot justify the commitment of over $100,000 required to renovate municipal buildings and property to meet the AODA standards.
2. Similarly, Council is not in a position to commit funding to accessible information/communication technology.
Nonetheless, Council will make every effort to accommodate the special needs of the public as required.
In addition, Council will ensure that any future development of property or building construction for public use will meet the standards set out in AODA regarding barrier-free access.
As the provincial and federal governments make funding available to municipalities, the Township of James will make changes and/or improvements to municipal buildings and property to meet the AODA standards..
