Community Forest
Historical Background
The Elk Lake Community Forest (ELCF) was established in 1991 under an Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR) initiative to involve local communities in resource management. Various interest groups were brought together as volunteers in the context of a Partnership Committee to oversee the activities of the ELCF. Operations have expanded to include a wide variety of resource management activities: from Forest Management Plans to Tree Planting to Geographic Information Systems! Clients included the OMNR, the Forest Industry and the Mining Sector throughout Northeastern, Ontario. The ELCF Partnership Committee continues to function as a participant in resource management planning.
